Meet @faithwinphotos

… also known as Faith Nguyen (pronounced similarly to the English word “win”).

My Story:

For the Christmas of 2016, my parents decided to splurge on an entry-level Canon camera as a gift for the whole family. I promptly claimed it as my own and haven’t given it back since. I’ve always been drawn to the visual arts, but once I discovered the medium of photography, I immediately fell in love. My photography journey began as a simple hobby, typically centered around capturing human beings.

In 2019, I landed my first photo gig, working at Zion Springs as a secondary wedding photographer and editor. There, I met my first true mentor, who taught me more about the medium than I even knew existed. My skills in framing, posing, editing, working with clients, and so much more improved dramatically, and working weddings every weekend became the thing I looked forward to most. Soon after, I began booking clients for everything from senior portraits to album covers. I fell in love with the different dynamics each shoot presented me with, matching my clients' energy and vision to the physical product I returned to them.

Upon leaving for college, I decided to bring my small business with me to Boston, MA. I'm currently 2/5 years into my degree in Architecture and Graphic Design, but I use photography as a creative outlet and opportunity to fund my education. Since starting college, most of my work centers around events, live music, and all kinds of portraits. Entering the music industry as a photographer has been a crazy but rewarding journey that I will talk your ear off about if you let me.

I am incredibly grateful for all the clients who have believed in me every step of the way, from the first months I picked up the camera, to those who sit in front of me now with my professional gear and experience.

My Passions:

The first place my passion for photography comes from is finding the beauty in the mundane and everyday. As I began to create more and more photographs, I found myself appreciating the beauty of quiet side-streets or late afternoon light through the trees, which began to inspire me to take more photos and continued this positive feedback loop. My second source of passion in photography is helping other people find beauty in themselves. Whether it's a styled and posed shot with an experienced model or a candid image of two friends laughing with each other, nothing is more gratifying to me than showing my subject a photo of themselves that makes them feel beautiful.

My Style:

As a photographer mainly focused on portraits, my stylistc inspiration always begins with people and their stories. Whether I can capture their emotions, their style, their hobbies, or just simply themselves, I always look to my subject as the main inspiration for creating photos. Even when I take photos of objects or places, I still look to tell the stories of the people who created them or have been impacted by them. You can find stories everywhere you look, and I get a lot of joy out of capturing these stories to tell to others through photography.

In all fields of my photography, my style falls somewhere in between documentary and the traditional. Beyond the obvious, I love to capture the small details and candid moments that make the experience of a wedding, concert, milestone, or love story come to life. My favorite pictures alwasy highlight raw emotion and meaningful connection. As far as editing goes, I always aim to enhance color, light, enhace the subject and remove distactions, without creating images that feel artificial or untrue to the lived experience. Look no further than my portfolio to get a gist of what this means in a visual sense.
